Standard Treatment There is no curative standard therapy for this stage, in which the tumor has spread to distant sites, so consideration should be given to investigational protocols such as combination chemotherapy , conventional radiotherapy or fast neutron beam therapy.
Metastatic disease can be treated with combinations of doxorubicin , cisplatin , cyclophosphamide and 5-fluorouracil.
Five-Year Survival 10 percent
Recurrent Cancer The prognosis is poor regardless of the cell type or stage. Treatment depends on the specific cancer, earlier treatment, area of recurrence and the medical problems of the patient. Surgery is often the first choice, followed by radiation. Investigational treatments are appropriate and should be considered.
